This is a complex romance story. First there is Alex, who was in a carriage accident that left him the inability to walk. Before the accident he was running his own Mill, and was about to propose to the girl of his dreams, Celeste. However, after the accident she bailed on him in his hour of need. Also his dad died a few years ago leaving Alex the Mill, Nathan money to go to Law School, and Sylvia the house. Then there is Nathan his step-brother, who wanted to go to law school, but after Alex's accident, he stepped up to run the Mill and while in doing so he became engaged to Celeste, so needless to say Alex has many bad feelings for the people in his life. However, the two brothers are complete opposites. Nathan will pretty much do anything his mother asks. He doesn't seem to have a backbone when it comes to her while Alex on the other hand is a person that takes charge, and tells you what is on his mind. Then there is Sylvia, who is his step-mother. She is very manipulative, and is trying to get a merger with Celeste's father, but Alex won't sign the papers. Finally, we have sweet Nora, who Sylvia hires as a companion/aide for Alex. Up until now he has only had elderly women as his aide/companion, and each one has quit because of his nasty attitude. Nora is only 21 years old, and Alex was not expecting his new aide/companion to be a beautiful young lady.
Alex spends his day in a crummy chair staring out the window. He is confined to his bedroom and never leaves. He does not wish to communicate with anyone. He is angry with God. He doesn't understand why in the best years of his life, he was left labeled as an invalid because the doc said he may never walk again. However, when Nora arrives Alex seems to respond to her because even through his nasty behavior, he is compassionate. After Nora is required to move in, she goes into Alex's room and tries to connect with him, but he still remains staring out the window until she tells him her story. As soon as she tells him she really needs this job, he starts to loosen up slowly. On her first day there she can get him to play a game of checkers. At the end of the day she gives him a back rub, so that he can go to sleep and stay asleep. Then she tells him that he needs to work out his muscles if he ever wants to walk again. She meets Nathan, and he seems instantly drawn to her even though he is engaged. He tells her that he does not want to run the Mill, and he wants to become an attorney. He will do whatever it takes to get Alex walking again. Nathan gets professional equipment installed in his room. However, Sylvia is not happy with this because she wants him to remain cripple. She tells Nora to stop the exercises because Nora is not a doctor and she could be doing more harm than good, so the next time the doc visits, she asks to speak to him privately, and he tells her the exercises can only help, and Sylvia knows that. Now Nora is in a predicament. She does not want to get fired, and she does not know who she should trust Nathan or Alex?
Both Alex and Nathan are falling for her, and she does not know what to do about it? Her original plans never included marriage or falling in love for that matter. What will Sylvia do to ensure that Alex stays crippled and signs the merger, so that she may marry Celeste's father. Will Nathan participate in his mother's manipulation and betray Alex? Who will Nora pick to marry? What is the fate of Sylvia, the wicked stepmother?
As usual her books offer many twists and turns that you want to read page after page! I can't get into too much detail because then I am telling you the story, but this is one of my favorite books that I have ever read. The authors I read are Nicholas Sparks, Karen Kingsbury, JoJo Moyes, Philippa Gregory, Sheila Walsh and other inspirational true stories. I did not realize that I even liked her genre until I read the Hayes series, but this book is amazing! I read this in less than 24 hours. I started at 8 pm and stopped ONLY because my eyes hurt, and started as soon as possible the very next day. She has become one of my favorite authors!
In each of Barbara's stories there is a valuable lesson. When bad things happen to us we blame God and have a pity party; Why me?. We don't ask is their a reason this is happening to me. We expect our lives to run smoothly, even though God said that their would be trials and tribulations throughout our lifetime. We would mourn and weep. It also teaches us that we should not judge a book by its cover. In this story there is betrayal, mistrust, love, determination and forgiveness. There were times that I was happy, upset, laughing, and a few parts made me cry. I highly recommend this book. It is a very good read, especially if you like to read inspirational books like I do. I would put this book in the top 5 best books I have ever read!
I just stumbled upon this lovely little gem and truly enjoyed it! I immediately fell in love with Nora and Alex and after just the first chapter, was already hooked and wanting to know what would happen next. Nora is a wonderful person, full of the love of God, spunky, creative, sweet and nice, and everything you'd want in a heroine. Alex starts out a bit hard, but we understand why from the get go and we sympathize. It isn't long, however, before plucky Nora tears down the walls he's built around his heart. There are dastardly characters in the story that you will immediately hate, and unexpected developments around the corners. I loved that the story was set in 1900 and the author maintains the period feel throughout the tale. Although it's not a long story, it is pleasantly full of wonderful dialogue, action, love, and passion - and she skillfully rode the line between just enough and not enough of the latter. Love the ending, and it left me with that coveted ahh feeling. This is the first book I've read by this author, but I plan on reading them all. Great writing!
This is a book that will warm your heart! Nice to read a love story, that doesn't take you to bed with them!

I really enjoyed this book. Terrific finale, and I now have a new favorite book and hero (Alex). It's one of Ms. Goss' most entertaining stories.
Temptation by Moonlight was a wonderful story filled with romance, suspense, and excitement. It was the first book I've read by Barbara Goss and it definitely won't be the last. I loved that God was a part of the story and that Nora & Alex realized the importance of having Him in their lives.

I had a good friend send me a link to this book with a recommendation, and so I followed up on it. I'm always looking for great reads, but I'm also a bit picky when it comes to reading tastes. I loved this book! Intriguing and inspiring story, excellent and captivating characters! The author does an excellent job with the romance in the book, keeping it real but clean at the same time. I also love the fact that bit has an underlying Christian theme to tie it all together. I read this in one night because I simply couldn't put it down. I shall be buying Goss' other novels as well ;) Seriously, you don't want to pass this one up!
